Credits & pricing

Usage is metered in credits. Your dashboard shows usage as a percentage of your plan's allowance (not raw numbers), so the bar stays meaningful as prices are tuned.

How it works

Every operation has a credit cost. Some cost more than one credit.
Each service's page lists its operations and their current costs under Operations & pricing.
When you reach 100% of your allowance, API calls return 402 until your allowance resets at the start of your next period.
A plan with no allowance set is unlimited and never returns 402.

Credit exhaustion (402) is separate from rate limiting. Sending requests too fast, or past a key's own per-minute or monthly cap, returns 429, not 402. See Rate limits for how to handle those.

Pricing lives in the platform, not your code

You never set or send a credit amount. You call an operation and the platform prices it. That means prices can change centrally without you redeploying anything.

When your allowance resets

Your allowance resets at the start of each period. The period is one month.

On a monthly subscription, the period follows your subscription date.
On an annual subscription, you receive your full monthly allowance every month of the year. The month starts on the same day of the month as your subscription.
On the free plan, and on a plan an operator set for you, the period is the calendar month in UTC.

Per-product limits on your plan

A plan can set a credit cap for one product. Two kinds exist:

A hard cap always stops calls to that product when you reach it. Pay-as-you-go does not lift it.
A soft cap stops calls only while you are inside your included credits. If you have pay-as-you-go turned on, calls continue past a soft cap and your account credit limit is what stops them.

Ask your Hank contact which kind your plan uses. The error body names the limit you met: product_credit_cap for a product cap, over_credits for the account limit.
